Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are trying to become the king and queen of Queens again. Rodriguez and Lopez are working on a new bid to try to buy the New York Mets for a second time, according to Thornton McEnery of the New York Post.
According to McEnery, the couple are working with senior bankers at JPMorgan Chase on a new bid to buy the Mets. Rodriguez first became interested in buying the Mets in February. The couple’s first attempt to buy the team failed because the Wilpons didn’t want to sell any part of SNY, the Mets’ television network.
The Wilpons are eager to sell the Mets and they are willing to include SNY in the sale of the team. Rodriguez was able to make a first bid to buy the Mets after minority owner Steve Cohen’s deal to buy the team fell through.
The Mets are valued at $2.4 billion, according to Forbes. Rodriguez would become the second former player to own a team, joining Derek Jeter of the Miami Marlins.
