Mike Tyson is Making a Return to the Ring

Mike Tyson is one of the most famous boxers in the history of the sport. While fighting, he captured the attention of the world with his incredible combination of speed and power.

In his 20-year career from 1985 to 2005, Tyson knocked down many boxing milestones, including becoming the youngest heavyweight champion of all-time at the age of 20.  Now, at the age of 53, rumors have begun to swirl that the man they called “Iron Mike” wants another shot in the ring.

According to CBS Sports, Tyson has been offered $1 million to compete in a charity exhibition match in Australia. His opponent will be none other than Shannon Briggs, a 43-year-old who has twice held the title as Heavyweight Champion.

Briggs has a knockout-to-win ratio of 88.3 percent, 53 of his 60 career wins have been by way of knockout, and 37 of those 53 came in the first round of the fight.

Mike Tyson, on the other hand, has consistently kept himself relatively close to the spotlight in retirement, with appearances on talk shows, small cameos in movies, and his own social media.

The latter, social media, has given followers a bit of hope that Tyson could still compete to a high level. Many videos, especially as of recent, have surfaced on YouTube of Mike Tyson sparring with trainers and he, truthfully, does not look like he has lost a step.

Tyson had put on his fair share of retirement weight in 15 years away from the ring but has made a massive turn around physically in the past year-and-a-half.  Although he is 53 years old, the second you hear him hit those sparring pads, it seems like he is back to the age of 20.

Now, these are just exhibitions, so it is not super exciting as of yet. However, it would be nice to see one of the all-time greats get back in the ring and put on a show for the whole world to see.

And, who knows? Maybe a couple of these exhibitions go well and Mike Tyson decides to lace up the gloves in full-on, professional bout once again.
