Winston will serve as the primary backup to starting quarterback Drew Brees while Taysom Hill’s multi-position role is expanded even further on gameday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved on from the former first overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft after signing six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady at the onset of free agency last month.
Winston threw for 5,019 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2019, both career-bests. However, he also registered 30 interceptions, the highest single-season total in the NFL since 1989.
Rumors began swirling that Tampa Bay could move on from the embattled quarterback at the 2020 Senior Bowl in late January. The team was linked to veterans Philip Rivers and Teddy Bridgewater before ultimately landing Brady on a two-year, $50 million deal.
Bridgewater ultimately signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Carolina Panthers after serving as Brees’ backup for two seasons.
