The NBA and 2K revealed an NBA 2K tournament for players on Tuesday.

The tournament will start on Friday, April 3 and run through April 11. It will air on ESPN. 16 players will participate in the tournament, including Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond and others, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the NBA and NBPA to bring basketball back to fans throughout the world and to help those in need during these uncertain times,” said Jason Argent, who serves as 2K’s senior vice president of sports strategy and licensing. “Entertainment, especially sports, has the ability to bring communities together — including athletes, fans and families — and we hope that everyone will enjoy the tournament.”

Players are seeded by their player rating in NBA 2K20. The winner will get $100,000 to give to charity to support relief efforts from the coronavirus pandemic.

Sports have been on hold since the coronavirus pandemic began. Lately, NASCAR drivers have competed in iRacing events that have aired on FS1. It’s great to see the NBA follow NASCAR’s lead and do something similar since the season is currently suspended. MLB, the NHL, and the NFL should consider doing something like this while they wait to return to their rinks and fields.
