The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Arizona Cardinals on Halloween for this Week 9 Thursday Night Football matchup.
A cool thing to look out for is the matchup between No. 1 overall pick, Kyler Murray, and No. 2 overall, Nick Bosa. While the Cardinals were on the fence regarding who they were going to take, they decided they needed offense more than defense. Both of these rookies have looked like they are a good fit for where they are, and they are having a very good season.
The Cardinals saw the Saints snap their three-game winning streak Sunday as Arizona fell 31-9. Coming in against the undefeated 49ers, the Cardinals will have to pull off a miracle. Although they are at home, the Cardinals will be lucky to score a few points off of this amazing 49ers defense.
The Cardinals are very short on depth. With both David Johnson and Chase Edmonds injured, they could be in some trouble. Johnson was having a fantastic season before he hit the IR with an ankle injury. He did not practice on Monday and Tuesday and had a limited practice on Wednesday. He is currently listed as questionable, and he would be a key asset for the Cardinals if he plays. Meanwhile, Edmonds didn’t practice all week and is listed at out for the game. After a lot of patience backing up Johnson, Edmonds shone brightly when he was playing. Last week, Edmonds didn’t have an amazing game, but he was amazing the week before when he ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns.
This game could also be a test for Murray. Despite having a very good season for a rookie, Murray didn’t look as good last week. He failed to throw a touchdown and was sacked thrice. This season, Murray has thrown for 1,988 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions.
The undefeated 49ers are undoubtedly coming into this game as the favorites, led by Bosa and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Bosa is having a terrific rookie season and is looking to keep that up. Hot off of being named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 8 performance against the Panthers, Bosa has his sights set on Murray. Last week, Bosa had three sacks, four tackles, and one interception. This season, Bosa has 16 tackles, seven sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception. His seven sacks are tied for seventh-best in the league.
The 49ers will also have to watch out for Larry Fitzgerald as he has four receiving touchdowns in his last four games at home against San Francisco. The future Hall of Fame wide receiver has 2,036 receiving yards and 18 career touchdowns against the 49ers.
If the 49ers can play like they have all season, this will most likely be a win for them.
