Keep Your Eye On: Jack Eichel, Buffalo Sabres

Keep Your Eye On: Jack Eichel, Buffalo Sabres

When the Buffalo Sabres drafted Jack Eichel with the #2 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Sabres fans knew that they found themselves an incredible talent. Big, skilled, blessed God-given talent, an eye for the ice, strong on his skates, he was deemed “The Saviour” right from the get-go in Western, New York. Here we are, with Eichel entering his fifth NHL season, and his total number of playoff games remains at zero. Not exactly what Sabres fans had envisioned when his name was called and he first donned the uniform at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. As the 2019/20 NHL season reaches it’s 10 day point, let’s take a close look at Jack Eichel, as one of the players to keep your eye on as the season progresses.

Although the 2019/20 NHL campaign is still in its infancy stage, few would rebut the fact that Jack Eichel, captain of the Buffalo Sabres, has been one of the early season standouts. With nine points (3G, 6A) in six games played so far this season, and his Sabres posting a record of 5-0-1 through six games, there’s reason for optimism in Buffalo. For a team that’s missed out on the postseason for the last eight seasons running, the time is now for Jack Eichel and the boys in blue and gold to put that streak to an end. Enter head Head Coach, Ralph Krueger. Known for his innovative views towards hockey and coaching, Coach Krueger has been a breath of fresh air in Buffalo so far this season, and the Sabres are definitely reaping the early benefits.

If we’re going to see playoff hockey return to the Queen City in 2019/20, much of that will fall on the shoulders of Jack Eichel. Cementing himself as one of the finest players in the game, the time is now for Jack to stamp his authority on what is to be a very competitive eastern conference this campaign. For now, we can only sit and wait to see how the season transpires surrounding # 9. Time will tell if we’ll see those patented towels waving around the Key Bank Centre come April.
