I went 10-5 last week, which was good enough that my keys still worked on Monday. My Cardinals and Bengals tie prediction didn’t happen, although it was looking possible. Here are my picks for Week 6.
Spoiler alert: I have some bold upset predictions this week.
Giants 30, Patriots 28
I hesitate to refer to Tom Brady as old, especially since we’re the same age. But a short week may have a slight effect on him this week. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones looks to bounce back after losing his first game since taking over for Eli Manning. Speaking of Manning, who better to get advice from between series than Brady’s kryptonite himself?
Saints 34, Jaguars 24
Teddy Bridgewater has played effectively and efficiently filling in for Drew Brees. Gardner Minshew had his magic fall short against the Panthers, and the Saints’ defense will force the same result this week.
Panthers 33, Buccaneers 27
What better way to start a football Sunday than with the first game of the day starting at 9:30 a.m. EST? The London fans will be treated to the NFL’s top running back, Christian McCaffrey. The Buccaneers’ defense will have trouble slowing him down, resulting in a Carolina victory.
Seahawks 31, Browns 20
The Browns struggled against the 49ers, and this matchup against the Seahawks isn’t any easier of a task. While I think they’ll keep the game close through the third quarter, Seattle will dominate the fourth.
Texans 48, Chiefs 40
Deshaun Watson is one of the few quarterbacks who can go score for score with Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes on a bad ankle is why I give the Texans the edge in this game.
Titans 21, Broncos 20
I contemplated picking against my team for the first time, mainly because of their kicker situation. The Titans replaced Cairo Santos, who missed three field goals and had a fourth attempt blocked against the Bills, with double-doinker Cody Parkey. But Titans head coach Mike Vrabel should opt to keep his offense on the field on fourth downs that would otherwise set up any long field goal attempts. While the Broncos are coming off their first victory, I think Tennessee sneaks out of Denver with a win.
Redskins 10, Dolphins 13
This game features two winless teams. I’m going with Miami as they are coming off their bye. The Redskins will prove it wasn’t just their head coach.
Eagles 24, Vikings 27
If this matchup happened last week, I’d be going with the Eagles. But Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins found his passing game. Combine that with a heavy dose of Dalvin Cook, and it will be too much for Philadelphia.
Bengals 10, Ravens 28
Lamar Jackson will lead his team to victory with help from Mark Ingram. The Bengals struggled last week against a mobile quarterback in Kyler Murray and I see them struggling again.
49ers 30, Rams 24
Jimmy Garoppolo will outplay Jared Goff. Plus, the 49ers’ defense will shut down the Rams receivers like they did the Browns’ on Monday night.
Falcons 17, Cardinals 24
The Falcons are struggling while Kyler Murray and the Cardinals are coming off their first win of the season. I see them upsetting the Falcons in this game.
Cowboys 17, Jets 24
Another upset pick here. Sam Darnold is back and will start for the Jets. Meanwhile, Dallas has struggled in their past two games. I’m taking the Jets to get their first win of the season.
Steelers 10, Chargers 36
The Steelers are down to their third quarterback and the Chargers are coming off a tough loss. I think Philip Rivers and the Chargers will make this a statement game by winning big.
Lions 34, Packers 30
One final upset. Coming off their bye, the Lions will play a similar game to the contest where they almost upset the Chiefs. This time, however, the outcome will be in Detroit’s favor with Matthew Stafford throwing the winning touchdown late.
If all my picks all pan out, the 49ers will be the only undefeated team after Week 6.
