The New England Patriots now have room for their prize acquisition.

Per reports the Patriots released tight end Lance Kendricks, and safety Obi Melifonwu.

Melifonwu,25, is a Massachusetts native who went to the University of Connecticut.

He was a second-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2017 and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots last season.

Kendricks, 31, was drafted by the St.Louis/Los Angeles Rams in the second round and had a stint with the Green Bay Packers before coming to the Patriots.

He was suspended the opening game for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Melifonwu’s roster spot with go to wide receiver Antonio Brown.

This leaves five safeties and two tight ends on the active roster. The Patriots will have three when Benjamin Watson returns from his suspension in Week 5.
