Jordy Nelson Released; Could he Return to Green Bay?by Prime Time Sports Talk March 15, 2019 0 comments
Jordy Nelson was released by the Oakland Raiders after just one short year with the team.
After trading for Antonio Brown and signing Tyrell Williams, the Raiders decided there was no room for Nelson in their wide receivers corp. Nelson was on a two-year, $14.2 million deal but was just released for the second time in one year. Nelson, who turns 34 in May, caught 63 passes for 739 yards and three touchdowns with Oakland last season.
While a Packers reunion would be a beautiful thing, it is highly unlikely. Nelson would compete for the starting slot job just based on his hands and chemistry with Aaron Rodgers alone. However, with the Packers retaining Geronimo Allison, and looking to get younger and faster on both sides of the ball, this will probably not happen. There is a better chance that Nelson retires than plays in a Green Bay uniform next year. If he does decide to play another year, the New England Patriots would be the best destination for him.
There is always a chance that Brian Gutekunst does bring him back, but chances are that Nelson won’t be in a Packer uniform next season.
