The San Francisco 49ers and free agent running back Tevin Coleman are finalizing a two-year, $10 million contract, a source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Coleman, who stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 220 pounds, was drafted in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons out of Indiana. He signed a four-year deal, and spent all four campaigns in Atlanta, appearing in 56 games and starting 20, while picking up 29 touchdowns.

2018 was by far Coleman’s best season, as he saw a large increase in action following an injury to starter Devonta Freeman. It also marked the first year of his career that he appeared in all 16 games. Through those games, including 14 starts, Coleman rushed 167 times, picking up exactly 800 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, in the air, he hauled in 32 of the 44 passes thrown his way for 276 yards and five receiving touchdowns.

Tevin Coleman joins a backfield that will have Jerick McKinnon (torn ACL) and Raheem Mostert (arm fracture) returning from injuries, and Matt Breida continuing to prove himself.

Coleman, who knows 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan from their time together in Atlanta, will fit in nicely in San Francisco’s backfield as he is sure to make a big impact.
