Denver continues to chase its tail with Joe Flacco trade

Though it’s technically an “agreement in principle,” as ESPN’s Adam Schefter put it, it appears Joe Flacco is being shipped out to Denver by the Baltimore Ravens.

Schefter also took it upon himself to point out Flacco is pretty much the best quarterback to never make it to the Pro Bowl.

That’s all good and well, but it’s not really that glamorous a title once you actually look at how many quarterbacks have made it to the Pro Bowl for the AFC in Flacco’s time: 17.

That’s right, 17 different quarterbacks have received the honor since 2008. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger have each been selected five or more times in said span. Andrew Luck has four times.

But none of those are surprising.

The list of quarterbacks who have made the Pro Bowl include: Jay Cutler, Brett Favre (in his one year with the Jets), Kerry Collins, Vince Young, David Garrard, Matt Cassel, and Tyrod Taylor.

Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson received their first nod this year, but they at least appear to be better than the list of one-and-doners from this stretch.

Matt Schaub, Alex Smith, and Andy Dalton have each been a Pro Bowler more than once, too.

That’s everyone. All those quarterbacks were able to do enough to receive the nod at least one time. Yet, John Elway thinks Flacco is the right move now—at the end of his career.

Elway has certainly done a lot with very little at the quarterback position, the 2016 Super Bowl with Manning under center being the best example. But it’s a bit odd to see Elway struggle to find the right person for the job for an extended period of time given his background.

Guess it goes to show that just because you played the game doesn’t mean you’re always the best assessor of talent.
