Well, week one has come and gone. While some games were close and others blowouts, on the defensive side of the ball, players started to stand out and make a mark right off the bat for their teams. In a review of last week’s edition, we saw the unfortunate injury bug claim Jonathan Allen after playing only seven snaps when he injured his knee. Richard Sherman though shined with five tackles, four solos, two pass deflections and an interception for a pick-six! Zach Cunningham has five tackles against New Orleans and my sleeper pick of Jerome Baker logged eight tackles, just shy of making the double-digit mark. Going into week two the matchups are looking juicy for these guys listed below!
Defensive Line
Sam Hubbard, Cincinnati Bengals
After a blistering week one for the second year sophomore. Hubbard managed two sacks, 10 tackles, and hit the quarterback four other times. Facing an inconsistent 49ers offense, who will be without Tevin Coleman, Hubbard will look to continue putting up numbers that blow his rookie season away. He’s a great start this week and further on stash for 2019.
Linebacker
Fred Warner, San Francisco 49ers
With teammate Kwon Alexander ejected during the game Sunday, Warner collected nine tackles and a forced fumble against the Buccaneers on their way to victory. With a load of confidence going into Cincinnati, Warner should continue production with Alexander by his side as they will be one of the most dominant linebacker duos for 2019.
Defensive Back
Walker is another second-year sophomore with a coming-out party in week one. After replacing the retired Glover Quin in the free safety spot, Walker recorded nine tackles (one tackle for loss), two deflections, and one interception against Arizona. His pass defense mixed in with the ability to get after running backs makes him a great ride the hot hand against a Chargers offense that’s going to be without Hunter Henry and possibly Mike Williams in Detroit.
Sleeper
Cole Holcomb, LB, Washington Redskins
Holcomb racked up eight tackles Sunday against the Philadephia Eagles, seven of them were solo as he was flying to the ball. In the Redskins next matchup, they face a run-heavy offense against the Dallas Cowboys which should produce another productive day. He is a deep IDP flyer and if he continues to perform, a great free steal for your team.
