The New England Revolution signed Colombian midfielder Luis Alberto Caicedo Mosquera on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy from Colombian side Cortuluá.

The 21-year-old played with second-tier side Cortuluá for three years, making 70 appearances and scoring three goals in the first and second tiers. Prior to playing with Cortuluá, Caicedo played in Portugal with Sporting CP II, the second team of the Portuguese heavyweights Sporting CP.

Revolution general manager Michael Burns said that Caicedo will add youth, depth, and competition to the defensive midfield position.

“We are pleased to add a young player in Luis who displays significant potential at the midfield position,” Burns said. “We believe Luis will help strengthen our central midfield and add to the competition at the position.”

While it is unknown if Caicedo will be a starter, his age proves that he has plenty of time to develop into a solid player, as he is one of the younger players on the team. With Isaac Angking sidelined for some time with a non-soccer related injury, Caicedo is the perfect fit to replace him in the team as he is also a younger midfielder with a potentially large upside.

The Colombian will be added to the roster with Target Allocation Money and will join the team after receiving his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
