It took overtime, but Boston College got the job done on Saturday in front of its home crowd at Silvio Conte Forum, with a 78-73 victory over Richmond.
Jordan Chatman led the Eagles with a career-high 30 points in the win.
Tied at 70 with 3:23 remaining in overtime, Chatman drilled a 3-pointer, giving BC a 73-70 lead.
Chatman’s make, sparked an 8-3 Eagles run, which he capped with a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining to seal the BC win.
BC led by as much as 27 in the opening frame, the Spiders would climb back into it to slice their deficit to 39-33 at halftime.
Richmond went ahead for the first time, 60-59, with 3:06 remaining in the second courtesy of a Jacob Gilyard layup, and led 64-63 with 1:11 to go.
However, BC would reclaim the lead, 66-64, on a Chatman 3-pointer, but on the Spiders’ ensuing possession down court, Khwan Fore hit on a layup with 25 seconds remaining, to send the game into overtime.
Ky Bowman added 17 points and Jerome Robinson chipped in 12 in the BC win.
The Eagles are off until next Saturday when they will return to ACC play against No. 13 Virginia (11-1) on the road at 2 p.m.
