After starting the season 5-1, UMass Lowell dropped to 5-5, with an 89-75 loss to Brown on Saturday.
River Hawks junior guard Ryan Jones scored a co-game-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough as UML sent Brown to the free throw line 29 times, and it converted on 25 of its attempts.
12 makes from the charity stripe in the first half helped propel the Bears to a 42-36 lead at the break.
UML sliced its deficit to four on two separate occasions early in the second half, only to have Brandon Anderson counter both runs with a pair of free throw makes.
The Bears led by as much as 19 down the stretch.
UML, which dropped to 0-4 on the road, returns home against Boston University (4-4) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
