In the final installment of Revolution Report Cards, Prime Time Sports Talks Lead Revolution writer Kyle Bray will be giving grades to the New England Revolution’s goalkeepers.
Cody Cropper- B+
Cropper won the starting job early in his first full season with the Revolution after joining the team from M.K Dons in England. He made 28 starts this season, earning eight shutouts, and made 71 saves. While he was in net for several heavy defeats, most of the blame is not on him. Cropper did not get a lot of support, whether it was from his back line making mistakes or his team playing down a man (or two). Cropper made the best of what he was given and at 24-years-old, he proved that he could be a good option going forward in the future.
Brad Knighton- B
Knighton only featured in six games this season, most of which came after Jay Heaps was fired, and earned a sole shutout. He managed 20 during these six games as well. He played relatively well in his six games, but much like Cropper, he fell victim to powers beyond his control, like losing a shutout late because of a very poor defensive error against NYCFC. Knighton was not resigned by the Revolution (as of now), meaning that Cropper is the go to guy for head coach Brad Friedel going forward.
Matt Turner- N/A
Turner did not feature for the Revolution this season so he does not get a grade. His contract option was picked up however, meaning Friedel sees him having a future with the team.
