In what was a down week for the local schools, the same cannot be said about a few individual talents.
★Jahad Thomas/UMass Lowell – Senior guard put forth a few more stellar performances. Thomas pumped in a game-high 24 points – including a key layup at the 6:47 mark – and corralled eight boards to power UML over LIU Brooklyn, 74-66. Four days later, he turned in a double-double (17 points and 14 rebounds) to help the River Hawks erase a 13-point second quarter deficit to top Loyola (MD), 83-75. He was tabbed America East Co-Player of the Week for the second straight week.
★★Vasa Pusica/Northeastern – Pusica opened the week by with a 27-point showing against Utah State, before pouring in 17 points against Furman the next day. The junior guard shot 6 of 11 from beyond the arc in three games.
★★★Bryce Aiken/Harvard – While the Crimson continue to scuffle along, Aiken certainty is not. In his three games, he scored 22, 21 and 16 points. He connected on three pivotal free throws midway though the second that pushed Harvard up by six, ultimately helping it fend off Saint Joseph’s, 77-71.
