On Tuesday afternoon, Boston Red Sox designated hitter Hanley Ramirez went in for arthroscopy and debridement surgery on his left shoulder. This is one of two known surgeries that occurred today. The other known is left-handed pitcher, Eduardo Rodriguez.
Ramirez posted this photo of himself going into surgery on social media.
The photo also contains a statement in which he promises an improvement in the upcoming season.
“Hi my people, went in for left shoulder surgery today, keep me in prayers. Coming back stronger in ‘18, love you all”
Ramirez was never injured enough to be put on the disabled list, so it is quite possible that he had been playing injured for quite some time due to a lack of a solid replacement.
The Dominican native had one of the worst seasons of his career this year. He batted a career-low .242 average, with a .320 on-base percentage, and a .429 slugging percentage.
His surgery was successful and he is expected to be ready for the 2018 campaign.
