When All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was shipped from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics in the blockbuster deal of the summer, it left the league’s premier video game manufacturer in an unusual situation.
Irving had been selected as the NBA 2K18 cover athlete back on June 1 when he was still a member of Cleveland’s organization. 2K Sports, the games developer, had already released images of the cover with Irving in his Cavs uniform.
Normally cover athletes don’t swap squads mid offseason being that they are virtually always among the top ten most talented players the league has to offer. However, such was the case with Irving, and 2K Sports decided to unveil a new cover with the former NBA champion in his new Celtics gear.
The announcement of the new cover, posted on NBA 2K official Instagram account, reads: “Introducing the NEW #NBA2K18 cover ft. @KyrieIrving in a Boston Celtics uniform, to be released at a later date!”
While the Boston faithful may have to wait a bit to get their hands on the game featuring their team’s new superstar on the front, they can rest easy knowing it is on the way.
