After arguably having the best preseason performance of any Patriot, third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett is being traded to Indianapolis for wide receiver Philip Dorsett.
This trade came at the mercy of losing Julian Edelman for the season due to an ACL tear, Dorsett will be another weapon to an already loaded arsenal. Brissett, drafted 91st overall in the 2016 draft from North Carolina State, stepped up to the plate during Brady’s four game suspension after Jimmy Garoppolo was injured. He had a great off season performance and proved himself worthy of a roster spot… and he got one.
Only it will be on another team.
Dorsett, the former Miami product, was drafted in the first round in 2015, and provides Brady with another option to rip off the top of the defense. At Miami, Dorsett eclipsed 2,000 yards with 17 touchdowns over four years. The stat line may not seem impressive, on film however, Dorsett’s explosive speed and catch in traffic ability make for a match up nightmare. He can line up outside the numbers and rocket downfield or line up in the slot and shake and bake.
Either way, this is a trade that will assist both teams in replacing injured players. The Colts are still dealing with Andrew Luck’s injury and the Patriots took the time to bolster a receiving corps with another talented prospect.
