The New England Revolution have signed French left back Claude Dielna Wednesday.
In 2014, the six-foot athletic back played in 23 games with English club Sheffield and scored one goal. He was loaned out to SK Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia the following year and appeared for them once. The following season he was recalled and sent out on loan to Dinamo Bucaresti, where he appeared in 10 games for them.
Claude definitely does not fit what most fans think the Revolution need at the moment. He does however, provide depth in an area where the Revolution are lacking the ability to change formation. Jay Heaps has been quoted as saying Dielna allows the team to have “more options defensively.” He will not arrive on the team for two weeks.
The Revolution have not given him a designation yet. They are waiting to see if they end up using their target allocation money in other transfers before using some to buy Dielna’s contract down from designated player status.
