Week 6 featured an added time slot for the second straight week on Sunday morning, courtesy of the NFL’s return to London. It also signaled the first week without Russell Wilson under center for the Seahawks. The Las Vegas Raiders began life without Jon Gruden. It was also another week with star running backs being sidelined. Saquon Barkley, Nick Chubb and Chris Carson joined Christian McCaffrey on their team’s injury lists.
Here are 10 takeaways from all the action during the week’s games.
Long Overdue
The Washington Football team retired the No. 21 jersey of Sean Taylor. The former safety died in November 2007, after being shot while protecting his family during a robbery attempt at his Florida home. Although, the lack of planning and a distasteful TikTok video made on the cordoned off “21” on the sidelines by Jackson Mahomes (brother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes), turned the long overdue ceremony into a PR nightmare.
21st Time’s the Charm
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who played their league-high eighth game in London, ended their 20-game losing streak. Coach Urban Meyer and quarterback Trevor Lawrence both got their elusive first NFL win.
Cross Country Thrashing
The Los Angeles Rams traveled east to MetLife Stadium to take on the injury riddled Giants. Matthew Stafford threw four touchdowns, including a pair to Cooper Kupp, in the 38-11 blowout. The win moved them to 5-1 and still just one game behind the undefeated Cardinals in the NFC West.
Tale of Two L.A.’s
Meanwhile the Rams’ SoFi Stadium mates, the Chargers, also traveled east to Baltimore. In a matchup between one-loss teams. Justin Herbert and the high-scoring offense ran into a stingy Ravens defense and totaled just 208 yards in Baltimore’s 34-6 win.
Big Cat Country
The Bengals played another complete game. The offense was led by Joe Burrow and his three touchdown passes, combined with running back Joe Mixon‘s 153 total yards and a touchdown, who saw limited action in Week 5 with an ankle injury. The Lions scored just 11 fourth quarter points, which wasn’t a match for the Bengals 34. Detroit coach Dan Campbell after the game was disappointed with his team, especially quarterback Jared Goff, for the day’s effort.
Missing Ingredient
Although Alexander Mattison filled in nicely in his absence, the Vikings offense looks so much different with Dalvin Cook returning to the lineup. Cook tallied 140 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, including the winning score in overtime to beat the Panthers.
The League’s Greatest Rivalry Continues
The Bears defense kept the Packers at bay, at least early on in their matchup on Sunday. Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers put the team on his back and led them to a 10-point victory. Rodgers’ heated comments after running in for a six yard touchdown were picked up by FOX cameras as Rodgers shouted “All my f—ing life, I own you,” as he was congratulated by his teammates. “I still own you. I still own you.”

Reverse Curse
Dating to Week 14 of last season, teams that won a Monday night game are 10-0 in their next games. The Ravens who beat the Colts, in comeback fashion last Monday Night, won in dominating fashion on Sunday.
Sooners or Later
The other marquee matchup of Week 6 featured the undefeated Cardinals in Cleveland to take on the Browns. The game featured Baker Mayfield and his Oklahoma Sooners backup, successor and fellow No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray. The Browns lack of run game due to injuries was too much for Mayfield and company to overcome. Murray owns bragging rights until their next matchup.
Dak and ‘Boys Avoid a Scare
Trevon Diggs snagged his seventh interception of the season for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. He now also has a pair of touchdowns on the season, which was one better than his big brother Stefon’s total on offense for Buffalo. Although, that didn’t last long, as Monday night the Bills’ receiver scored his second in their loss to the Titans.
After a big play (the biggest of the season for the Patriots offense) gave them the lead, the Cowboys forced overtime with a field goal. In the extra period, quarterback Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb for the walk off score.
The Cowboys got Lamb and Diggs in the same draft. Both players somehow just dropped to them. Now, the rest of the league is paying for it.
