10 Takeaways From Week 4 of the 2020 NFL Season

Russell Wilson

Week 4 of the NFL season is officially in the books. Here’s a weekly look back at the week that was in the NFL.

Sharing the Spotlight

The New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs game was moved to Monday Night after each team had a positive Covid-19 test. While two games on Monday is a delight for fans, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his Atlanta Falcons counterpart Matt Ryan were hoping to have all the undivided attention on them on Monday night. They would have to share the spotlight with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Brian Hoyer, who got the start for New England in the absence of Cam Newton

Anything but the Norm

Nick Foles lost in his Chicago Bears debut against the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, the guy he used to backup, Carson Wentz, pulled off an upset over the heavily favored San Francisco 49ers. What’s even more impressive is Wentz was playing behind a decimated offensive line and a receiving core that he needs a roster guide on his wristband to know who they are. The Eagles got their first win of the season and are now atop the NFC East.

OBJ of Old in Big D

Odell Beckham Jr. had a pair of touchdown catches, including one from a fellow receiver, LSU teammate, and best friend Jarvis Landry on a trick play. Late in the game, when the Dallas Cowboys were once again mounting a comeback, Beckham scored on a 50-yard rushing attempt to secure the win. His three total touchdowns equal the total his former team, the New York Giants, have through their four games.

Dalvin and Company are Finally Cooking

The Minnesota Vikings running back, Dalvin Cook, tallied 130 yards and a pair of touchdown runs in the team’s win over the Houston Texans. Quarterback Kirk Cousins added 260 yards passing and a touchdown.

Buffa-4-and-O

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders. Allen threw for a pair of touchdowns, but his streak of consecutive 300-yard passing games ended at three as he came up 12 yards shy of the mark.

Not so Fast Young Fella

43-year-old Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted 22-year-old Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. After falling behind early with Herbert making some big-time throws, Brady put on a five-touchdown performance. He completed it with some big-time throws of his own.

Another MVP-Esque Performance

Sunday in Miami, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson added two touchdowns, bringing his total to 16 through his team’s 4-0 start. He ended the game with 360 yards through the air.

Speaking of MVP’s

Meanwhile, in the nation’s capital, reigning MVP Lamar Jackson bounced back from being shut down by the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. He threw for two touchdowns, and he also scampered for a 50-yard touchdown run.

It Only Took a Quarter of the Season to get his First Taste

Joe Burrow, who has played well through the previous three games only to come away with a record of 0-2-1, finally got his first NFL victory Sunday, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Baby Momma, Baby Sister Drama

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and New York Giants receiver Golden Tate exchanged punches after the conclusion of the team’s game. Ramsey is the father of Tate’s two nieces. There’s bad blood between the two after Ramsey reportedly ended a long term relationship with Tate’s sister while she was pregnant with the couple’s second child last summer. As of Monday morning, the NFL was looking into the incident.
