Week 2 of the NFL season is officially in the books. Here’s a look back at the week that was in the NFL. Here are 10 takeaways from Week 2.
60 and an L
Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow attempted 61 passes in the team’s loss to division and cross-state rivals, the Cleveland Browns.
Like Father, Like Son
During halftime of Thursday night’s game Hall of Fame president David Baker surprised Fox Sports play by play man, Joe Buck, the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s prestigious Pete Rozelle Award, given for his longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football. Buck joins his father, Jack Buck, in receiving the award, the first father-son duo to do so. Troy Aikman now shares the booth with a fellow Hall of Famer.
More Bad News For Fantasy Owners in Week 2
After Week 1 saw Michael Thomas, George Kittle, and A.J. Brown go down for a game or two minimum, Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Nick Bosa, Jimmy Garoppolo, Devante Adams, and Drew Lock all left their respective games after getting injured. While some may miss multiple weeks, others are done for the season. Those fantasy owners that had a top-three pick, were already trolling the waiver wire at halftime of the early games.
Ridley Believe it or Not
The Atlanta Falcons boast one of the top five receivers in the league in Julio Jones, but for the second time in as many weeks, the star receiver in the ATL was Calvin Ridley albeit in a second straight loss.
Aaron Squared at Lambeau
Aaron Rodgers threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns against the Detroit Lions. But the team’s other Aaron, Aaron Jones stole the show. He accounted for over 230 total yards and three touchdowns complete with Lambeau leaps minus the crowd.
Bet on Black… and Silver
In the first home NFL game ever in Las Vegas, the Raiders led by Derek Carr, upset walking NFL record, Drew Brees, and the Saints. Raiders coach Jon Gruden was fired up after the game.
AFC South Shootout
In Jadeveon Clowney‘s home debut, Titans fans were expecting to see their defense play lights out. But the unit surrendered 30 points to Gardner Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Seems Mike Vrabel may need a defensive coordinator after all.
Big Ben of Old
In his second game after coming back from last season’s ending elbow injury. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. Vintage Big Ben.
300 Back to Back, Only Better
A week after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen ended the team’s long drought without a 300-yard passing game, Allen put on an encore. He passed for over 400 yards and four touchdowns in the win against the Miami Dolphins.
DangeRuss Outlasts Super Cam
In the Sunday Night Football matchup, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw five touchdowns against the New England Patriots’ defense, after surrendering a pick-six on his team’s first possessions. But it was Seattle’s defense that preserved the win by stopping Cam Newton on the 1-yard line on the game’s final play.
